Female-led, Meanjin-based soul band Menajerie helps kick this week’s playlist with their latest effort “First Sunday”. The song is a mellow soulful ballad that is dynamic, cinematic and soul-stirring from start to finish. In between the swinging rhythms, solemn textures, rich chords and soaring pads, lead singer Gracie pours her heart on wax as she reflects on loss, grief and the emotional steps taken to find solace and inner peace. Producer/rapper Pseudo The Beatguy caught our ears with his new release “This That Type”. His style is off-kilter and strays from the norm at every turn. Armed with an impassioned flow, offbeat cadence and reflective songwriting, he gives audiences an engaging performance chock full of rhyme schemes and witty bars.
Spaceman Dela – “SHiNE”.
Spaceman Dela‘s latest release”SHiNE” is a collaboration with producer Dayhills, who gifts him a dynamic 2-part soundscape comprising moody textures and soulful dreamy vibes. Here, Spaceman delivers an emotional performance ripe with raw lyrics and expressiveness that implores us to find our true strengths within.
Derrty D – “It’s Like That”
Derrty D returns with “It’s Like That”, an anthemic and boastful tune that sees him in his element. Over a bouncy trap soundscape comprising a classic vocal sample and cinematic textures, Derrty D delivers an expressive performance ripe with vivid imagery and engaging lyrics that remind us of his antecedents.
King Jus – “World Gone Crazy (WGC)”
King Jus shares his perspective on the current state of affairs in “World Gone Crazy (WGC)”. From injustice, and inequality to racial tensions, King Jus shows us how the world has really gone crazy
C3H8 Propane LdD – “KBZA”
(C3h8) Propane LdD caught our ears with his new single “KBZA”, a heartfelt tribute to his mother and all the hardworking women out here. He employs a piano-driven backdrop as his canvas and he shares with us the positive attributes of the lady who raised him and made him the man that he is today.
K-Rec, Checkmate and Moka Only – “Inference and Hearsay”.
We head to Vancouver with the aid of hip-hop stalwarts producer/DJ K-Rec, emcees Checkmate and Moka Only who team up for “Inference and Hearsay”. Backed by a jazzy soundscape comprising warm chords, slick soulful chops and head-nodding drum grooves, the duo trade insightful bars laced with gems and engaging rhyme schemes to match. The song is taken from the forthcoming EP from Checkmate and Moka Only with K-Rec producing.
Sam Dapper – “29 YEARS LIVING”.
Emerging rapper Sam Dapper‘s new single “29 YEARS LIVING” is a heartfelt reflection on life as a young black man in the USA. Backed by a soulful and brooding backdrop, the rapper takes us through the ups and downs, and the never-ending struggles.
J Shiltz – “92 Blue Jays” (feat. Dan-e-o)
J Shiltz and Dan-e-o team up for “92 Blue Jays”, an anthemic tune compromising hard-hitting drums and triumphant horns that herald the coming of two dope lyricists. No page is left unturned here and the emcees deliver a plethora of engaging lyrical displays with engaging rhyme schemes and cultural references.
Krip Tha Don – “Crown”
Krip Tha Don goes for the gold in his new single “Crown”. The track has a dark and scenic vibe and is underpinned by his bravado raps and commanding flows.

Showrocka, Mistah fab and D Breezy bring the party to our doorsteps in their new anthemic tune titled “Town Bidness”. Over a smooth cinematic bounce, the emcees deliver a fiery performance ripe with edginess and playfulness.
papillon noir – “neverland”
Emerging UK rapper papillon noir peers into the “neverland” to clear his head. Over a dynamic and cinematic soundscape, he pours his heart on wax as he finds inner peace.
Dane Diamond x Wave Lord – “Waves and Diamonds”
Producer/musician Dane Diamond and Wave Lord team up for “Waves and Diamonds”, an anthemic celebratory tune that captures their chemistry as artists. Over a pounding soundscape comprising of a mantra-like vocal sample, punchy bas-driven drums and cinematic textures the duo deliver a resounding and engaging performance that blends catchy melodies with commanding raps.
Kristii – “All The Way”
Singer/songwriter Kristii delivers her new single “All The Way”. The track sees her teaming with songwriter Verse Simmonds and Award-winning producer Scott Storch who laces her with an atmospheric and dream pop soundscape. Here, Kristii delivers a sultry and alluring vocal performance ripe with edgy and unapologetic lyrics and a memorable hook.
PLATA – “UMBRAL”
Spanish rapper PLATA enters our playlist with “UMBRAL”. The track blends soft rock elements with punchy boom-bap drums underpinned by insightful bars and a soothing melodic chorus.
BP Infinite – “Deep In My Heart” (feat. Cory Gunz, Tragedy Khadafi, Elzhi & Murkemz)”.
BP Infinite returns with his brand new single “Deep In My Heart” which sees the prolific producer teaming up with a handful of super lyricists who help bring down the verbal hammer like Thor. Over BP’s cinematic soundscape comprising rich orchestral vocal samples, dark strings and punchy drums, Cory Gunz, Tragedy Khadafi, Elzhi and Murkemz trade unapologetic bars in tandem and give audiences a much-needed lyrical slugfest that is worth every listen.

Katie Ladubz – “New Wave” (feat. D33zy)
Katie Ladubz and D33zy team up for this bouncy and playful tune titled “New Wave”. The production is crisp and rich with soft mellow keys and synths underpinned by celebratory lyrics and a memorable melodic hook to match.
Epic Ruffin – “Yellow Pages”.
Emerging rapper Epic Ruffin pours his heart on wax in his newest release “Yellow Pages”. Over a moody and sombre vocal sample-driven backdrop, Epic Ruffin reflects on his journey thus far and tops it with an interpolation of the classic hook from DMX‘s “How’s it going down”
Detroit Red – “Capture the Moment” (feat. Rakim)
Detroit Red teams up with the rap god Rakim for “Capture the Moment”, a mid-tempo lyric-dense track that showcases pure lyricism with bravado. The production is atmospheric and cinematic and as expected Rakim comes through with his distinct commanding flow alongside Detroit Red’s expressive cadence.
Trizz x MIKE SUMMERS – “Type Shit” (feat. 2 Eleven)
Trizz and MIKE SUMMERS continue their slew of releases with the latest being “Type Shit” featuring 2 Eleven. The track is a hard-hitting street banger ripe with dark ominous textures and thumping drum breaks that is perfect for Trizz and 2 Eleven’s street-savvy bravado raps. “Type Shit” is taken from the new album of Trizz & MIKE SUMMERS titled Cavi En Cursive.
Olayinka Ehi – “where did the sun go?”
Benue State-born, US-based singer/songwriter Olayinka Ehi teamed up with producer Chris Potter for her new single “where did the sun go?”. The tune is a heartfelt and reflective take on the pressures of life and the feeling of being lost but underneath there is that sliver of hope for a brighter tomorrow. The production is surreal and ethereal while Olayinka’s breathy vocals are prevalent and soul-stirring from start to finish.
dom champ – “New Way”
UK artist dom champ is looking for a “New Way” in his latest release. The mellow and reflective tune explores the burnout that comes with being stuck in the same place in life. The lyrics dwell on the need to find a way out of the doldrums and break out of self-doubt. Overall it’s a positive song that aims to uplift our mood in these crazy times.
Paria – “Love Don´t Come Easy”
Norwegian singer/songwriter Paria enters our playlist with her new single “Love Don´t Come Easy”, a heartfelt love ballad that is anchored on the beauty of true love and the challenges that come with it. The production has a warm and ethereal texture with soft bouncy drums underpinned by Paria’s sultry melodic runs and heartfelt songwriting.
Xavvi x CAROLENA – “Passion”
“Passion” is a collaboration between rapper Xavvi and South Florida vocalist CAROLENA. The R&B/hiphop-infused track is produced by Riko Tha‘ Producer, who laces them with a soothing and moody backdrop to share their perspectives on the dynamics of maintaining relationships.
