Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 10 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades. Through the 90s and 2000s, it has taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.
Again, we promise to bring you the best from high to low budget, to animated to DIY and first and foremost, the most creative visuals we can source.

Cheflodeezy ft. TeeJay – “Ecstacy”.

 

Miami-based Dancehall/hip-hop crooner Cheflodeezy set things off this week with his new single  “Ecstacy” featuring TeeJay. The track is a solid mix of genres with its rich and cinematic textures and thumping drums underpinned by his stylish melodic flow that embodies his Caribbean roots. The accompanying video shot by Steven Bernard is a bright and vivid affair that pairs his charismatic performance style alongside sultry dance moves and luscious models.

 

Flau’jae – “Perfect Timing””.

Rising rapper Flau’jae has been on the rise for a while as she balances her musical artistry with her studies at LSU where she flourishes as a champion basketballer. In her new single “Perfect Timing”, she acknowledges the ups and downs of her journey and basks in the experiences and her impending success. Over the sombre and punchy backdrop, she delivers a smooth melodic performance ripe with reflective bars. The visual captures her in her school and some of her achievements on the court alongside her performance style.

 

 

 

Brad Stank – “Cry Baby”.

Genre-bending singer/songwriter Brad Stank delivers this reflective piece titled “Cry Baby” featuring Lord Apex. The production is sombre and made up of lush textures, soft guitar licks and soft grooves underpinned by expressive vocal runs and songwriting that dig deep into emotions and the dynamics of life. The visual is a DIY affair with different clips that capture the artists in their element and habitat.

 

 

 

Black Sherif – “January 9”

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper/songwriter Black Sherif ‘s new release “January 9” is a reflective tribute track to himself. Released on his birthday, the track explores his personal experiences, emotions, and perspectives on a poignant journey through the artist’s musical evolution. Over a Gospel-soul-tinged backdrop, he pours his heart on wax and takes us through the ups and downs of his life and seeing how far he has come, assures us that all is well. The visual has a mix of performance shots with engaging storyboarding and abstract motifs that help accentuate the heartfelt and emotional messaging.

 

V Knuckles x Phoniks – “The Next Chapter”

The duo of Cambridge, MA-based rapper V Knuckles and prolific producer Phoniks share the visual for their new release “The Next Chapter”. V Knuckles delivers a fiery and hard-hitting performance ripe with vivid and ear-grabbing bars that pay homage to the hip-hop culture. The soulful production has a rich cinematic feel and it’s peppered by excellent vocal scratches on the hook that employ classic lines from luminaries like Nas, jay Z, Little Brother, Edo G and more. The accompanying visual is a performance affair and we see the veteran rapper doing his thing.

 

 

 

MOPHEAD TBC – “Purses”

Emerging Brooklyn, NY artist MOPHEAD TBC helped close out the video playlist with his new video titled “Purses”. Armed with his laid-back whispered flow, he delivers a smooth and unassuming performance over a dreamy and somewhat moody backdrop. The accompanying video blends performance shots and easy-to-follow set pieces and shots that tap into his mellow demeanour.
