Kuwaiti-born rap duo Sons of Yusuf team up with Jay Electronica for a solid piece titled “Diving For Pearls” that showcases their dense lyrics and Islamic faith. Backed by a smooth, broody backdrop courtesy of Mike Chav, known for his extensive work with Erykah Badu and Jay Electronica, the emcees talk about the background and LA upbringing while Jay mystically relates to his ancestors’ story of coming to America.

Sons of Yusuf, a duo of blood brothers Ya’koob & Humble Abdul, began by making viral Arab-flavored remixes of hip-hop hits, but have blossomed into a true cultural phenomenon. Their 2018 single “One Time” went #1 in Kuwait and achieved radio play in France, Morocco, UAE, & the rest of the Gulf Region; they have been featured prominently on Spotify’s ArabHop playlist. In 2018, they formed Astrolabe Records with Mike Chav, known for his extensive work with Jay Electronica & Erykah Badu. Sons of Yusuf’s debut album, Shaykh the World, drops February 2020 and features appearances from Jay Electronica, Cyhi the Prynce, Talib Kweli, Shafiq Husayn, & others.
