On the 5th Of February, we lost another legendary musician David Axelrod. A multi talented composer, arranger, and producer. One of the first set of producers who fused  elements of Rock, Jazz and RnB.  His works are well known in Hip-Hop circles as they have been sampled over time by legendary producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Premiere and many others.

Cornwall,Uk based producer Si Spex goes in his lab and crafts his latest work titled “Way Of The Axe” which serves as a befitting tribute to the late David Axelrod. Over 3 minutes, Si Spex flips elements from Mr Axelrod’s vast catalogue. The samples used here are “The Fly“, “The Sick Rose“, “The Sign pt3“and ” Loved Boy” while the drums are from “1000 rads”
Since working on the Def Star mix and the Barry Roulette Si has found a whole new creative avenue to explore, that of video editing. He therefore decided to knock up a little video accompaniment to the track. As well as some amazing stills plucked from Axelrods official website The video also utilises elements from his one and only live solo performance at the Royal festival Hall that Si was very privileged to have witnessed first hand.
