Samara Cyn and DJ Premier Release New Cover of “Can I Kick It?” for Major League Soccer
Audio As the world celebrates the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which happens to be the first World Cup hosted by three countries (USA, Canada and Mexico), the hip-hop space joins the fray as Amazon Music and Major League Soccer tap Samara Cyn and DJ Premier for a modern version of the classic ATCQ‘s “Can I Kick It?”
With the MLS kicking off in mid-July, the league have launched a series of campaigns united under the slogan “Thanks World, We’ll Take It From Here,” which aims to convert the momentum of the FIFA World Cup into fandom. As per usual, DJ Premier crafts the perfect backdrop with the same Lou Reed sample but with updated punchy drums and superb turntablism to seal the deal. On the other hand, Samara Cyn steps into the spotlight with her laidback flow and surgical lyricism that pays homage to ATCQ and reminds listeners that she is a formidable emcee who can hold her own.
The “Thanks World, We’ll Take It From Here,” campaign by the MLS features prominent figures including players Lionel Messi, Son Heung-Min, and U.S. Men’s National Team captain Tim Ream, as well as celebrity owners David Beckham, Matthew McConaughey, Magic Johnson, and Kevin Durant, and spans national broadcast, streaming, digital, social media, and out-of-home advertising. The campaign will debut during FOX’s FIFA World Cup semifinal and final coverage before expanding across Apple TV, TSN, and broader channels.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup began on June 11, 2026, and will conclude on July 19. It is jointly hosted by 16 cities—11 in the United States, 3 in Mexico, and 2 in Canada. The tournament is the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three countries and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from the previous 32-team format.
