Eclectic contemporary soul group Próxima Parada caught our ears with their newest release titled “So Many Ways to Get Downtown”. The group started a decade ago when creatively inclined college students in San Luis Obispo, California joined forces to create something a unique mix of sounds ranging from soul, R&B, pop and hip-hop.

“So Many Ways to Get Downtown” was inspired by a pep talk from their Grandma Cathryn who let them know that “There’s so many ways to get downtown and we’re all heading there.” The realization this quote leads to is quite touching as it implores us to not get distracted by how others are moving but we should just find happiness in our progress even if it’s in small increments. The production here is quite lively and is made up of layered guitar riffs and phrases underpinned by a mellow bassline that rolls gently with the rousing drum grooves and crisp Rhodes. The ebb and flow is also an element that makes it stand out as listeners get drawn in by ear-grabbing melodic runs that slowly build into a crescendo in the chorus section and fall back on the verses.

Overall the record is a brilliant piece that gives nostalgic feelings with an uplifting vibe that gets listeners going.
