Watch the video for Phife Dawg’s first single entitled “Nutshell” off the Give Thanks EP!

As we all know by now, the legendary Phife Dawg from the beloved group A Tribe Called Quest passed away on March 22nd, 2016. We here at The Word Is Bond went in depth on our feelings and thoughts on his passing, you can read that article here. Today, I am overjoyed to share the news that Phife Dawg’s new single called “Nutshell” has arrived. The new song finds Phife Dawg invigorated and coming with hard hitting flows over a equally thumping J Dilla produced beat. The music video for “Nutshell” features touching cameos from Mike Gee (Jungle Brothers), Posdunos and Maseo (De La Soul), Rakim, Redman, Pete Rock, and the members of A Tribe Called Quest. The video was premiered tonight at the “Celebration of Phife” event held at the Harlem Apollo Theater which brought many of us to tears. The event featured numerous heartfelt tributes from icons in the Hip-hop game and it was truly a special moment within hip-hop. Additionally, 50% of the sales of Phife Dawg’s new single will be donated to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation respectively. The new song was actually teased by Phife last year and he had even discussed plans for it to be apart of a new EP. That new EP is called Give Thanks and will be released via Smokin’ Needles Records in the future. Help celebrate Phife Dawg and his musical legacy and check out his latest single. Rest in power King!
