Phife has just released a new single called “Dear Dilla” off his upcoming album ‘MUTTYmorPHosis’

The legendary Phife from A Tribe Called Quest has been on a long hiatus since he released his first solo album ‘Ventilation: Da LP’ back in the year 2000Phife has just dropped a brand new single entitled “Dear Dilla” which will be featured on his upcoming album ‘MUTTYmorPHosis‘. As the title suggests, “Dear Dilla” is a tribute to the prolific producer J Dilla. It’s truly touching to hear what Phife has to say about J Dilla, it’s evident that he really misses him. Phife rhymes brilliantly over a beat crafted by DJ Rasta Root that combines the drums from Slum Village’s “Hold Tight” along with various J Dilla phrases. Phife’s lyrical content comprises of him expressing the state of today’s Hip Hop music and how he wishes J Dilla was still around. For those who don’t know, J Dilla passed away in 2006 at the age of 32. J Dilla’s passing has left a tremendous void in Hip Hop and has effected so many artists that were close to him as well as fans who knew him through his music. Phife’s “Dear Dilla” is a truly heartwarming track and a fitting tribute from one legend to another. In all honesty, it’s a true joy to hear Phife rhyming like he never left and we can’t wait to hear more from him. Be sure to check out Phife’s “Dear Dilla” and look out for his album ‘MUTTYmorPHosis’ when it drops. The front and back artwork for Phife’s single “Dear Dilla” can be seen below.
