Montreal-based singer and songwriter Maridee is an emerging talent who is silently building a solid portfolio when it comes to her brand of music. Vocally she reminds me of Amel Larrieux with a pinch of Beyonce, while musically she has definitely evolved over time to the stage where I can say she’s pretty comfortable with her sound. Teaming up with producer Marion Kroll on her new 4 track EP NOX, Maridee blends neo-soul, hip-hop and live instrumentation to wonder the musical path less travelled. Clocking at just below 13 minutes, you would be hard pressed to find a weak track from the mid tempo ‘Check It’ to the energetic drum-sampled ‘Brandy’ and the uber brilliant soul engulfing Pierre Kwenders-assisted ‘Just a Beat’. I have to say though that the last cut ‘Unworthy’ begs to be extended and certainly leaves listeners asking for more.

Last words: totally brilliant from start to finish!

Two very different people, one sound. Future soulistic.
