Emerging rapper Kuda enters our site with his new project 52 BLUE, a 5 track project that hopes to show the world the rapper’s duality and how he copes with being on the spectrum regarding mental health. Throughout the 5 tracks, he uses a range of trap sounds as his backdrop and his distinct autotuned melodic flow as his weapon of choice. The title is a reference to whale that famously communicated at a frequency no other whale could understand.

“Lift Off” is an anthemic piece and I must add, the perfect way to start the project on a high note. Over the cinematic synths and bass-heavy trap drums, Kuda delivers a laidback and somewhat nonchalant melodic flow drenched in autotune. As the title suggests, the track sees Kuda flexing his verbal skills and detailing how he lives his life with lines like “They gonna judge me first impression/They gonna see me when I’m gone/Top Shelf, Kuda got expensive taste, stuffing the racks up in my shoe/Why cause I like my money laced“.  The next track “Get Hiya” starts with a warbled vocal performance, moody textures and a downtempo groove that serves as Kuda’s canvass to once again paint pictures of his life and the ups and downs that come with it. He also uses the autotune feature to augment his flow and he is joined by Marc who adds an extra verse to the track. This is followed by “It Ain’t No Gift”, which sees Kuda reflecting on his hard work and how detractors try to derail him from his goals. He doesn’t shy away from being vulnerable and reminds us that he is not giving up anytime soon.

The project closes out with the thumping bass-heavy “Roll Da Dice” and “Nothin2Lose”. The former continues Kuda’s gi-getter mindset and never-say-die spirit while the latter has a brooding and ominous texture that helps bring the project to a close. Here, he sends out warnings to the naysayers and fake friends as he has moved on to better things and working on getting his just due.

Overall 52 BLUE sticks to familiar territory throughout
