Texas-based rapper/songwriter GODzthedon releases Sorry, I Still Like You, a 6-track conceptual project that explores love from different perspectives. The production is quite engaging and is versatile as he uses soulful samples with trap and boom-bap drum grooves.

The first track “Leave You Alone” is a reflective tune that sees GODzthedon coming to terms with heartbreak and losing that special someone. Over a soulful and bouncy backdrop, the rapper explores the aftermath of his breakup and the lingering feelings that refused to fade away. Lines like Got me wishing for a time machine to take me to the start again/I done lost my baby but worst of all I done lost a friend/Hoping that this feeling that I’m feeling in my heart will end/Ironic how I’m looking at this like a lost win” show his vulnerability and willingness to accept his fate. The following track “Past Lives” comprises a brooding synth texture and rich electric guitar riffs with thumping trap drums. Here, GODzthedon employs a melodic flow as his delivery method and pours his heart on wax as he looks back at a life when love was all around him and compares it to the present. This is followed by the modern pop-hip-hop infused track “Heartbreaker”, an aptly titled track that looks at the dynamics of love and the unpredictable journey that intertwines two individuals on different paths. The chorus is quite catchy and it’s also one verse long and short. “Learn To Love” starts with a soulful vocal sample and solemn textures before a smooth melodic chorus comes into play, followed by unapologetic verses that dive into the rapper’s flaws as he manoeuvres through the emotional rollercoaster that comes with love. “All Mine” produced by JaronOnTheBeat is a laidback tribute tune that sees GODzthedon pouring adulations on his girl with lines likeYou be the reason that I wanna wake up/You give me purpose for time that I take up/Make me feel great for every last break up”. He doesn’t shy away from showing gratitude for this love he is experiencing and delivers a heartfelt performance ripe with genuinely thoughtful lyrics. The final track “PerfectMatch” helped seal the deal with its bright and positive outlook on love and is underpinned by GODzthedon’s relatable lyrics that remind us that there is no such thing as perfection in love and it’s all work in progress.

Overall Sorry, I Still Like You, is a short and interesting look at how love depreciates, progresses and grows over time from different perspectives and also explores how the experiences reshape one’s thinking and outlook in life.
