East London rapper Isatta Sheriff returns to the forefront with her third single “Will They Try” from her forthcoming EP, Eat The Kiwi Skin. The single was produced by her longtime collaborator Koralle who prepares a sombre jazz-infused soundscape comprised of warm keys, soothing textures and soft drum grooves for Isatta to share her experiences as a black woman in the entertainment industry. She is quite candid and dives deep into the manner of exploitation black female rappers face in the hip-hop sector of the industry while touching on the intersectionality of racial politics and misogynoir. Far from being a so story, it sounds more like an exposé and documentary piece that aims to enlighten listeners of the trials and tribulations faced by black women in UK hip-hop and beyond.
