Known for their catchy, off kilter samples, bouncy and yet grimy soundscapes. The producing duo The Beatnuts have always delivered a diverse range of bangers throughout the years. Now on tour and busy a ever, we managed to sneak this brief tete-a-tete with the men behind hits such as “Watch Out Now”, “Off The Books” and “Let’s Get Doe”.

1 From Intoxicated demons to A musical massacre, you guys are known for rumbustious lyrics and heavy banging beats. What is your take on the significant shift from the NY heavy beats to the southern type sound that is ruling the airwaves now?

The BeatnutsMy take is that it’s sad that it’s so one sided, for whatever reason..radio programmers etc.. most radio DJ’s aren’t allowed to play what they want or break new records anymore. There is no balance when you’re playing the same 20 songs every hour on the hour. We are not giving this generation enough of a variety to make and informed decision about what they really like, they’re being “programmed”

2 What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

Im clueless about the industry today, I think I’ve always been…outside of it being shady as hell, I don’t know or care to know much about it.

3 What do you think are the most important skills in succeeding in the industry right now?

If only I knew, if you find out the answer to that one please let me know. We’ve just always done what we love and tried to stay true to ourselves our peers and the culture the rest has always been potluck.

4 I saw you guys performed in Montreal and it was pretty off the hook, its like the music really riles up the crowd. What is the process behind making music for that particular purpose or is it just instinctive?

I think that there are just gonna be some songs that get the people crazy, I cant really put my finger on it…we make song that get us crazy and the team psyched I guess the crowd feels that energy too, live performance for me is the most exciting part of it all actually.

6 Y’all recently partnered with Tha Liks, how did that come about?

It was something we’ve talked about for years and recently touring together just brought it to fruition..those guys are awesome friends and very much screwed up like we are so the collab was inevitable.
