Independent queer genderfluid rapper Demi Day comes through with a 12 track project Heart Turned Gray that reflects her growth as an artist as well as chronicling her life. The project is a follow up to her debut EP PLANS.

From the jump, Day sets the tone with the cinematic mood of the introduction track “Did you not know” where she states her claim while on “Beast” she delivers a bravado laced performance over a playful backdrop. Already she gives the listener different sides to her from intention to playful. “Who You bettin on” has a hard-hitting, ominous texture and sees Day proving the haters wrong once again. “Prince Demi” is as regal as the title and showcases Day’s lyrical prowess and demeanor which she uses to shatter the gender binary settings. She doesn’t hold back the punches at all and goes forth with solid lines like “Never been afraid, had to break away the chain, you know I couldn’t be a slave.”  The project keeps the energy on high and on the drill track “Do It All,” Day again reminds us all that she has many talents and skills behind her. Over the booming basslines and triumphant synths she hit us with powerful lyrics like ” I internalizing my wealth, I never needed the help/ No way to fail, all I can do is prevail, wisdom so deep as the whale.” The buck doesn’t stop there and on the title track, Day goes for a somewhat reflective and introspective mood as she comes to terms with the card she dealt and how she overcame her struggles.

The project sure gives the listener a glimpse into her persona over a mix of hard-hitting and cinematic textures. Demi Day got a solid one here.
