Ariwo
This is a super cool lp and I nicked this from my Aunt way-back-when (along with Infinite Jones). The line-up of musicians is amazing featuring the ever talented multi-instumentalist Fela you might have heard of him? I could play this whole LP very easily in a mix so It was a tough choice to pick one track from it, however, thought I’d start off mellow. Ariwo is a strong 10 min African Spiritual Funk groove and a good choice IMHO to kick off with. Am not too sure if this has ever been re-issued, might well be time that it is… Superb. Next…

2. Alberto Favero: Suite Trane (In Memoriam John Coltrane)
Catalyst Records / Trova Cat# 7914
1977 (Argentina)
Big Band / Modal

Line us is massive and I can’t be arsed typing it in (Big Band Ensemble etc.)

Primer Movimiento
Since I did the John Coltrane mix I thought it was only right to drop something in here. I did consider this but I think I used it in the OG mix. This is an awesome record. Generally I’m not a big fan of Big Band stuff but this lp is a smasher from beginning to end. This is the opening track and Raul Curi’s hypnotic bass swings pure cool, go find it. Amazing… Next.

3. John Stubblefield: Prelude

Storyville Records #SLP-4011
1978 (USA)
Strata East Vibe / Fusionesque

John Stubblefield – Sax Tenor / Soprano
Cecil Bridgewater – Trumpet
Cecil McBee – Bass
Joe Chambers – Drums
Mtume – Pots and Pans
Onaje Allan Gumbs – Keys

Song for One
You don’t have to be a Jazz aficionado to look at the above line up and think FUCK Bridgewater/McBee/Chambers/Mtume… You get that right? This LP wouldn’t have been out of place on Strata-East. Heavy Gears and a straight out and out killer
