Montreal’s Chung has been on our radar since she started and now she presents her debut Chung Shui EP that brings all of her hard work to closure. The 7 track project is as dynamic and cinematic as they come as she and producer Cotola deliver a cohesive, no holds barred piece. Chung holds her own for the most part with just a handful of features ranging from Dancehall crooner King Shadrock, singer Kyilah, and rapper Boy6lue.

The title track opens up the project with its ominous and cinematic soundscape and a classic kungfu flick sample setting the scene on a proper note. Chung is in her element and reminds listeners of her pedigree as a hardnosed lyricist. This statement is backed up by King Shadrock who delivers a rousing hook to complete the mission. On “Love Roller Coaster,” the rapper shows a different side of her repertoire as she dives into the love department alongside vocalist Kyilah. On “Next to pop” she teams up with rapper Boy6lue for a one-two punch that hardcore rap lovers would love. The EP closes out with the soulful and somewhat nostalgic “back and I’m bad” and  the guitar-laden “7030” which both display Chung’s affinity for drumless beats and a knack for penning vivid lyrics.
