sunsets & bad bets is a musical collaboration between US-based singer Sydney Imani and Irish producer David Collier. The duo met in Amsterdam as students and released their first collaboration in 2020 which eventually led to their debut album  love&theinternet which was crafted remotely.

Their latest effort titled more than friends is a 4 track EP that explores the dynamics of modern-day technology-influenced relationships. From text messages to growing feelings, natural trepidations, and reassurance to wading through the murky waters of modern dating. The duo take listeners on a roller coaster ride of emotions that detail the start and end of a relationship with all the subtle grey areas. From the introductory “hey” which signals the start of something to the love-drenched “skip in my feet” where the characters bask in the warm embrace of one another to the gloomy “vulnerable”. Audiences get to see the bright and dark patches of love and how things are never rosy and easy. The EP closes out with the title track with its playful plucky synths, and sparse but punchy drums where Sydney realizes that it’s all fleeting. The tracks are particularly distinct from each other and tackle different aspects of love and use subtle motifs like phone sound effects, and voice messages/notes aesthetics with a touch of retro R&B aesthetics that hark back to the 90s.

The vocals were recorded in Ireland and Holand and it was mixed and mastered in France by engineer and producer Andrew Gowie, who was nominated for a Grammy for his work on Drake’s Scorpion album, and three of the tracks feature vocals from LA-based songwriting duo The Crushboys
