With over 2 decades of making music, UK-based American producer Big O has been consistently breaking the mould with his style of soul-infused chill-hop style of production. With several beat tapes, and collaborations behind him, the producer returns with another body of work entitled I Belong Here. The 3 track project is released via UK-based label Chillhop Guru and showcases Big O’s expansive work behind the boards.

The project starts with “The Way It Seems”, a soft soulful piece with an overwhelming welcoming vibe. The drums have a distinct groove comprising soft congas, drum fills and the ethereal soul samples laden with a thick bassline all come together like they were made for each other. It sets the tone right and gives audiences something to relax into. This is followed by “Fall ’87”,  a chilled reflective piece that raises the ante a tad bit with its crunchy breakbeat, sober strings and nostalgia-inducing vibe that captures a time in the past. The final track “He’s Only Just begun” brings the project to a close with another gem that tugs at the heartstrings. The soul pads are bolstered with a prevalent bassline, sparse but groovy drums, lush guitar plucks and heartwarming textures.

Overall, I Belong Here is brief and short but does the job in many ways. The tracks tell a tale of a man who has preserved through the years and has become a true time-tested musician. The project is his testament and serves as a notice to everyone that he is here to stay.
