Libretto’s Gangsta Jazz is the first free-digi EP in a series of collaborations between Slum Funk Entertainment and Liquid Beat Records. The concept behind the Gangsta Jazz EP and the forthcoming Gangsta Boogie EP was make to make a cohesive project strictly using loops from old records with minimal extra production. The goal is to pay tribute to the classic sound of the great 90s West Coast Hip-Hop Libretto grew up with in Watts, California (think King T, Compton’s Most Wanted, and WC and the Maad Circle). By utilizing the soulful, sample based sound that was used to such perfect effect in the early 90s, Libretto reminds us of the power, perspective, and poetry that Gangsta Rap has to offer.
