Boy Meets World is Fashawn’s debut album….produced by Exile. Exile was quick to recognize Fashawn’s talent and produced the entire album. A real labour of love by both artists …

Boy Meets World starts with a very classic and mellow vibe with Barry White’s smooth voice that soon leads in to some hard knocking beats.

General feel:

What’s most striking is Fashawn’s talent, his lyrics deep & rich and always have a deep meaning, every word is spit to cause a certain feeling or reaction, and Exile does a great job of mixing hard/west coast beats with soulful/jazzy ones…a great balance that results on a smooth journey full of meaning & originality.

Boy Meets World is very deep and has many layers, and like all classic albums the more you listen to it, the better it gets….

Tracks:

#1 – Intro: Fashawn lays down the track where is going to run for the next 15 songs, by introducing himself to the world, with a lot of style and cadence.

#3 – Hey Young World: A track full of meaning and coming from someone that came from the bottom and has just started his career, it’s as real as it gets…

#5 – Life As A Shorty: Well….

#6 – The Ecology: A powerful track about the ghetto life in “Sunny CA”, portrays a very black & white description of what it’s like to live in this sunny yet harsh reality. The best track on the album in my opinion, and really showcases how much talent Fashawn posses…

“It’s time to move silent
the weak get devoured
too many fake hustlers the drug game is sour
rather live like an animation then die like a coward…”

#8 – Why: Another lyrical gem…here’s a little excerpt:

“It’s 2009 got think smarter
stop being baby dadies & be fathers (I can’t understand)
some dude vacate to the hemptons
knowing his seeds needs pampers
wanting to be a part of they life
instead they tricking different women no room for a wife
or a family God got a million names
and if we made on his image does he see it the same
and if we flesh of his flesh could he feel my pain…”

#11 – Sunny CA (ft Coss & Mistah Fab):

#14 – When She Calls: Beautiful Instrumentals with great samples

Closing comments

If you like good Hip Hop, you owe it to yourself to own this…and if you have it already, well you probably already know that it’s a quality Xmas gift for anyone that appreciates the art form… One of those that you need to get it Hard copy….

Even if you don’t buy it, you will probably hear of Fashawn one way or the other, he has too much talent to be contained.

This album Elevates the West Coast once again, to a great level of quality. Loads of great underground artists have been releasing great material on the past few years…and although in the mainstream, it might seem like the West Coast is dead, The underground scene is a whole different story.

I’ll be on the lookout for more Fashwan in the future and wish both artists all the luck for their future endeavors.
