After RZA and Big Daddy Kane teased the single “Open Ya Eyes” late last year, the time has finally come for lovers of classic hip-hop to rejoice. The legendary Wu Tang Clan leader has now assembled the original members of the legendary Juice Crew together for the 7-track project entitled Bobby Digital Presents: The Juice Crew.
The reunion project is a tribute to the pioneers who laid the foundation and paved the way, and also serves as an ode to classic hip-hop with a modern twist. The Juice Crew disbanded decades ago, with each member attaining a level of musical success, but the genius of RZA brought them back for one final hurrah that hopefully helps add another notch to their accolades. The project was spearheaded by RZA with additional help from DJ/producer Mathematics, and finds them crafting new tracks from Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, MC Shan, Roxanne Shanté, Masta Ace, Craig G, and Grandaddy I.U. (RIP) into the WU-inspired cinematic world.
From the scenic introduction “Open Ya Eyes” with Big Daddy Kane in the lead role to the anthemic “Makin’ It Home,” which brings the lyrical dexterity of Kool G Rap, the stylish flow of Grandaddy I.U., and the grittiness of Craig G in perfect unison. Craig G gets some shine on the solo track “Lolita,” where his storytelling abilities come to the forefront, while Roxanne Shante reminds us of her lyrical royalty on “Roxanne The Truth.” Masta Ace and Pearl Gates pay homage to all the mothers out there on “Single Mothers,” and MC Shan helps close the project on the final track “Game Ova’.”
Bobby Digital Presents: The Juice Crew is now available via 36 Chambers/DNA Music Group/Hitmaker Distro here.
