Paris-born soul singer/songwriter Tiwayo has come a long way from the city of love and is now charting a new path in Austin, TX. Teaming up with Grammy winner Adrián Quesada of the Black Pumas, the singer unveils his sophomore single “Up For Soul” as he prepares for his forthcoming album, Outsider. The track is a vintage-sounding soul piece that evokes the spirits of Sly Stone, Johnny Guitar Watson, and the like, and showcases Tiwayo’s soul-drenched vocal style, adding a new meaning to blue-eyed soul. Each word is etched with pain as Tiwayo details the daily struggles of an artist, pushing through harsh elements but still finding a sliver of hope at the end of the line.
The visual captures Tiwayo and his band in the studio at Electric Deluxe Records in Austin, TX. The result is a lively showcase of the band’s exemplary approach, pushing modern soul music rooted in the past. Viewers get to see the vintage, intimate studio setting and the coordinated visual arrangement that highlight each musician. The Outsider project promises to deliver a raw, edgy form of bluesy soul with a vintage touch, featuring musical contributions from members of The Black Pumas, led by Adrian Quesada on the guitar. This includes Jay Mumford on drums, Terin Moswen Ector on bass and backing vocals, pianist/backing vocalist Joshy Soul, Alexis Buffum on strings, and Will Grantham working behind the boards as a sound engineer to glue everything together.
