Brooklyn-based hip-hop artist VENUS brings something different and distinct in their new release O2TS. The 4 track EP is a culmination of their years of crafting and honing their unique sound, taking elements from different sources ranging from R&B/hip-hop/electronic dance music, experimental pop and their experience in New York City.

From the moment the project starts, audiences will get drawn into this ever-evolving world, VENUS has built around himself. The first track, “Not for Long,” is as experimental as they come and taps into the sensibilities and emotions of a young man growing into himself. The soundscape is moody and somewhat solemn while evoking feelings of the past. Here, VENUS delivers an off-kilter performance ripe with playful vocal inflections, plucky melodic runs and a rap-inspired cadence to tie things up. The production and overall aesthetic of the track reminds one of Toro Y Moi. The next track, “Lancet” employs distorted bass synths and thick pads with four-to-the-floor drum patterns. The production is highly dynamic, progressive and driven. The use of future pop with dark elements and extensive vocal effects is a testament to VENUS’s versatility and love for pushing his musical boundaries. The fun continues as VENUS strays from the norm and on “Ignis Deus,” he goes for an upbeat experimental electronic-pop sound. The beat comprises hard-hitting drums and plucky synth brass-like sounds with an atmospheric pad arrangement that evokes the spirit of summer. The final track, “Just Looking” is a mellow dark trap/soul piece comprising cinematic pads, rich synth riffs underpinned by layered melodic runs and sublime harmonies. VENUS once again delivers a catchy tune that is easy to follow and will linger on in one’s ears for a long time.

Overall O2TS, is a compilation of 4 unique tracks with interesting elements that are connected by subtle musical threads.
