Chicago-based rapper/songwriter Trio aka PROFIT unveils his new project BOOM…NEXT THING YOU KNOW. The 11-track project expounds on the rapper’s love for the culture of hip-hop and his journey from a kid to a young man in an unforgiving world.

The project chronicles  Trio aka PROFIT’s life, and gives audiences a first-hand account with no sugar coating. The first track “GOT FLOWS part 4” continues the music series and gives a rundown of how he ventured into music and the people who guided him along the way. From his first introduction to rapping, he watched his uncle become an amateur rapper in their home and that experience lit up a passion in his heart. The song continues to break down his growth as an artist, from forming a rap clique to finding his voice and eventually going solo. Next up is the reflective “RAY J SISTA,” a soulful piece that explores the ups and downs of life. Trio sounds confident and content with his experiences and lines like “Make the shit go hard like a Ye sample/ Put my hand on my heart like a preamble/Life roll of a dice life we gamble/You damn right, it ain’t never more than I can handle” help put things in perspective. “MAGICAL” serves as Trio’s grace and appreciation for life despite the trials and tribulations while on “OHTANI”, he flips a classic soul sample to create a majestic and heartfelt track filled with boastful bars like “Who you is, do remind me/Know who I be?/You could call me profit, I pop it to Paparazzi/I follow like Luca Brasi.

The project continues to build on Trio’s antecedents, especially on tracks like “11/9” and “THE SAGA CONTINUES….” The former is a testament to his dedication to making art that speaks for itself, while the latter looks at how life changes over time. On a more sullen note, Trio pens a heartfelt letter to the man he has become on “I.R.L” aka In Real Life. Over the solemn piano-driven backdrop, he reminds us of his growth and shares his disdain for people who try to fake it with lines like “In real life, they don’t rap no more/They just punching in/ 9 to 5, they don’t try no more/They just punching in/In real life, I thank God I made it, to this point, knowing that I was no one’s favourite.” Other interesting and notable tracks include the Chi-town tribute “SUPER CHI”  and the bravado-driven “WHOLE TIME.” Trio also has a knack for vivid storytelling over soulful sounds. This is displayed on the final track “C.R.O.W.N” where we get a charged-up Trio who steps up to the opposition with lines like “We cannot be at odds with no crumbs/even the odds and go dumb/even some stars will succumb- to the pressure/Never let them see you sweat.” The project also comes with a bonus track in the form of the track “STONY MARTY |Team Infamous Freestyle|.” The record is mellow, and scenic and is chock full of engaging story-telling and boastful bars.

Overall BOOM…NEXT THING YOU KNOW is raw lyricism with dope beats combined. Trio aka PROFIT doesn’t try to please the crowd with gimmicky hooks or bars but rather creates a body of work that speaks to the soul.
