Emerging Stoney Creek, Ontario-based independent rapper/songwriter Soo Casa enters our radar with his new project Oskee. The 4 track body of work sees him teaming with a couple of fellow rappers and together they deliver a set of no-holds-barred songs ripe with playful raps and somewhat engaging hooks.

The “Intro” is aptly titled and features snippets from Mortal Kombat, films and a short song clip that gives audiences a glimpse of what is to come. The next track “Lift Em” is an upbeat bass-driven track comprising thick 808s, and playful bell synths all underpinned by fiery raps from Soo Casa and Jerelle. Here, both rappers deliver a tandem of hard-hitting raps ripe with irreverent and bravado lines like “don’t come to me and say much, I ain’t even gotta say much/They say my lyrics back to me, I swear it’s all just been done”. One can tell both were having loads of fun with this and the result is quite engaging from start to finish.

This is followed by “Hostages” featuring ParkfromCC, the track is another upbeat bass-heavy tune that is underpinned by another round of unfiltered raps.  ParkfromCC set things with his smooth nonchalant flow and vivid lyricism inviting us into his playboy lifestyle this is followed by Soo Casa’s laidback flow. They do bring something different with lines like “My stress heavy but the chain heavy, yeah/The neck messy bitch I get plenty/I kick rocks like I’m now Messi/ The strip club money falling like its confetti” which is chockfull of playful and devil may care lines. The final track “Strawberry Jam Freestyle” has a prevalent bassline with a moody texture and punchy but sparse drum arrangement and sees Soo Casa in his element. He doesn’t stick to a particular topic but rather goes off in a different tangent as he flexes his bars for the audience.

Overall, Oskee is a short and playful body of work that seems to be an introduction to Soo Casa than anything else. The rapper doesn’t go in-depth into his life or rap about any introspective themes but rather he just delivers several entertaining tracks that listeners can sit back and vibe to.
