I had the chance to fill in for DJ Hullewud this weekend on Break North Radio. He always starts out the show with a track that has been sampled by various rap artists. Then, in the second hour of the program, he plays those tracks. For my stint as guest-host and DJ, I decided to focus on “Waters of March” by Sergio Mendes (originally by Antônio Carlos Brasileiro) and then highlight a local act that flipped that sample.

In this episode, I also pay tribute to an artist and visionary we lost way too soon. Prodigy passed away this week at the age of 42 due to sickle cell anemia. He left a huge mark on the hip-hop scene with his solos releases, guest appearances, and of course, his influential group, Mobb Deep. That is why, I had to start out with a solid hour of his amazing music.

This show also features tracks by Cquel, Mullet N Steps, Tone-Loc, Del Reze, Philly Moves, Soundminds and more.

I hope you enjoy the show and check for DJ Hullewud next week. It’s a great program that I was honoured to have the chance to contribute to.
