Raised in Prince George’s county by way of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, we have rapper/songwriter Rahdi Boomaye who delivers his new project entitled, E8: Black Philosopher King. The 8-track body of work acts as an introduction to the rapper himself and his varying world views as well as his experiences as a young black man in the modern world.

The project opens up with the Boger-produced “E8” where Rahdi displays his off-kilter flow over the lush and soulful soundscape laid before him. This is followed by “habit Loop”, a hazy and retro-tinged track that sees Rahdi reflecting on loyalty, love and trust between his kinfolk. Rahdi shares his thoughts on having integrity within his relationship in the reflective tune “Deen”, and on “Lethal Weapon”, he blends his nonconformist flow with vivid rap imagery. This is followed by the introspective “Red Letters” which is inspired by his real-life experiences with his leasing office and a pending eviction. The soundscape provided by FlyFx is hazy and ethereal and Rahdi details the wild thoughts running through his mind at the time.

Other dope tracks include the jazz-soul-infused “HB” and the R&B soul sample-driven “Lioness”. The project ends with the anthemic “Luv Jones pt. 2” which was spurred by the pain of losing access to his daughter because of the faulty relationship between him and her mother. Rahdi gets into hustle mode and reminds us that he will not quit regardless of the hurdles ahead.
