Winston-Salem’s hip-hop pioneer OG Spliff releases a 2-pack single offering, consisting of the self-reflective tirade Son of Toga and its restorative, compliment, “Building.” Both tracks were produced by Argov who makes use of excellent sampling techniques with an off-kilter arrangement style.

“son of toga” is made up of a rousing sample chop with rumbling drums and stabs and sees the rapper looking deep into himself and acknowledging his own flaws and toxic traits. Far from glorifying it, he is more attempting to be accountable and make the right changes to be a better person in general.

“Building” has a sombre and reflective vine with its lush keys and moody textures and sees the rapper coming to terms with the reality of his scars and wounds and he searches for a way to move ahead. Again, OG Spliff gives listeners a nuanced and relatable take on the subject but from his own unique perspective.
