Fresh from dropping ‘SLR 2’, Lupe Fiasco drops ‘SLR 3 (Round Of Applause)’ upon the masses. I’m not quite sure if this is a direct response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse, but his recent output has definitely been inspired by it, and so you have to say that Kendrick has been a success (not with Lupe specifically, but with getting people to drop stuff). I’m not sure what to make of Lupe at the moment; with the recent SLRs he seems to be goofing around but some of his lines are crazy sharp, and his inspirational verse juxtaposed between Rick Ross and Wale earlier this year was the kind of thing we were used to hearing back on F&L. He seems to be putting an awful lot of energy in to twitter at the moment, which on the one hand is good because he is killing it, a genuinely funny guy, but on the other has he lost the motivation for music? Probably not, with his Tetsuo & Youth and Cup Of Jayzus projects on the way. Anyway, I liked ‘SLR 3‘ and especially appreciated Soundtrakk’s nice production, and despite all the recent talk about Lupe Fiasco he still remains probably my favourite MC today. Lupe Fiasco – SLR 3
