Emerging UK emcee Lewis Wxt got his first taste of music growing up with music-loving parents who nurtured him with a wide range of sounds ranging from soul, garage and R&B. As he came of age, he started expressing his creativity with Grime/rap and slowly found his voice within the traditional rap sphere. His latest effort “Mess Around” is a return to form for the rapper who took a 4 year long hiatus to recalibrate his life and reposition his status as a rising star in the UK rap scene. The track is also inspired by the passing of his cousin and we get to see different sides to his artistry as he reflects on his journey, his pain and his motivations to be successful. Backed by the haunting and solemn backdrop comprised of moody pads, sparse drum grooves and dark pads, Lewis digs deep with bars like “Speak to the correct ones, too many pretend bro/Hoping that I get smoked, won’t hold my breath though/Can’t be on my team, I kick em out, you let the ref know/I step on the beat like Ronaldhino in Tiempo” while reminding us of his past dealings and his renewed vigour despite of the never-ending hurdles he had to overcome.
