Independent rapper Ky Ani is on a wave as she drops her new mixtape THE ONE in grand style. The 9-track project is a collection of hard-hitting cuts that aim to remind listeners that she is the hottest commodity in the game, and if you have not heard of her, well, now you have.

The project opens with “1-800-KYTHEE1,” an intro filled with voicenotes from her supporters urging her to return to the forefront. The supporters vent their frustrations about the current wave of wack rappers and demand Ky Ani’s triumphant return to save the game before it gets ruined. This is follwed by the single “DAMN!,” a heavy 808 driven piece that sets the tone for the rest of the priject and presents Ky Ani as the artist who got next. She doesn’t waste any line and goes right to the jugular with raw, edgy lyrics like “keep talking shit, put that gun to your butt/And you know I always keep it tucked/Pretty as fuck in the truck.” This leads right into “ARE YOU A HOT BOY?,” where Ky Ani repurposes the classic Missy Elliott track from the 90s. No stone is left unturned with the graphic R-rated lyrics punctuated by Ky’s commanding flow, while “WORKING” showcases her melodic style in all its glory.

“THINK THEY HATE ME” is an unapologetic track that explores Ky’s sexuality and her confidence. She doesn’t shy away from speaking her truth, and with that, no one can use it against her. The beat here is punchy and smooth, and goes well with Ky Ani’s expressive flow. Next up is the club-ready “JUICE BOX” that is underpinned by fiery bars that dive into her personality. Over a rousing production that interpolates the bassline from the clasic Sister Nancy track “BAM BAM”, Ky Ani kick  Lines like “I’m the one, ain’t no second/All these hoes on thrid/Flow nasty when I spit, the whole world gonna hurl/They say I’m way too pretty spitting this rotten dark skin bitch like I was out here picking cotton”  which underpin her mission statement to be the best out here. The final track, “NATURAL BORN SPITTERS” is a short skit that features testimonials from industry folks who pour adulations on her.
