Jay Z is not one for low key, simple things – as his ‘Picasso Baby’ experiment demonstrated – and with this video for the Justin Timberlake-featuring Holy Grail’ it’s fair to say he’s gone all out on the creative output. While his album was considered a let down by some for being too safe, this video – released initially on Facebook, unusual in itself – it’s pretty unbelievably insane. The track is screwed with, as Jay Z sits on his throne while the direction draws on the eerie, subconscious uneasiness that resides within. It’s actually a pretty outstanding bit of art. Bold, daring, unmistakably Jay Z.
