It’s been a long time coming for Guelph, Ontario beat architect Elaquent. During the infancy of his career, projects like Self I Am and After Midnight marked a new dawning in hip hop, and, 14 plus projects later, the young producer’s name has become synonymous with the mellow sound of the late J. Dilla.

Last month beat heads were blessed with “Guidelines,” the first release off Elaquent’s forthcoming album, Forever Is a Pretty Long Time, featuring rapper Oddisee. The twosome channel their inner Dillas to reimagine the power grooves brought to us on throwbacks like Thelonius, which, Elaquent has stated in an interview is one of the best verses J. Dilla has ever thrown down.

This time around, the Ontario beat maker is switching it up on his second teaser from the album, “One Week,” featuring fellow Canadian and Polaris-nominated singer A L L I E. In anticipation of Forever Is a Pretty Long Time‘s February 21 release date, we’re giving you a listen to “One Week” below. Pre-orders for the album are being accepted here.
