Daddi ru, also known as Daryen Ru, is a Brooklyn-based, non-binary filmmaker who received acclaim for their 2019 short film DENIM, which starred transgender icon Jazz Jennings. Their musical journey officially kicked off as a teen in New York, singing and playing guitar in parks. Their music is a fusion of sounds from classic Motown, 80s rock, and futuristic dark pop with experimental aesthetics as shown in their debut release titled “Parasite”. The Duddy Brown-produced song is cinematic and made up of hard-hitting drum grooves, and moody and dark textures with Daddi ru’s commanding melodic runs to boot. As the title suggests, it talks about toxic relationships and the concept of being used for someone else’s pleasure. They are joined by legendary rapper and hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Caz who adds his own thoughts on the matter with his baritone vocals and smooth flows.
