Emerging Brooklyn based indie act Ciggy got our attention with his brand of neo-soul laced with hip-hop elements. His new release titled “I am not American (i am only hers)” brings to the fore a smooth calming vibe as he delivers a soulful gripping performance over the dreamy soundscape laid before him by producer Ankit Suri.

The title of the song is Ciggy’s dedication to his significant other while also touching on the political landscape on a surface level. The production of this song is quite unusual and it was made by using iPhones to sample sounds in the studio where it was recorded. Ciggy and Suri even used the sounds of Chess pieces for the percussions. Pretty novel if I may say so.

The video was chopped up by Suri who uses a wide variety of retro clips ranging from retro ads, tv shows, and much more to drive home his message. Get “i am not american (i am only hers)” on all DSPs here.
