NYC’s Bleed Electric return with So Sick, a 5-track project that combines engaging storytelling, expansive music production techniques, and a variety of genres from rock, Grunge, hip-hop to experimental pop.
The title track “So Sick”  opens the floodgates of emotions with its rousing electric guitar riffs, punchy live drums and dark strings. Here, the vocals cut through the mix with surgical precision and emotional punch. With lines like  “So save me from this disco, let me take you to the electro heaven, I’m addicted…” that underscore the mental unravelling of a restless spirit that seeks to be free.
The next track, “IX Rapid Eye Movement,” is a four-part psychedelic medley which starts with an obscure movie clip and proceeds into a moody string section with autotuned vocal runs. The first chapter, “Better Than a Weekend in Spain,” sets the tone before the punchy “Hoobanging,”  comes in with rappers Siege and Silk trading hard-hitting bars over an off-kilter, surreal backdrop. The next two chapters, “Beverly Spilled Pop,” and “Wooden Shoes From Amsterdam,” blend dark industrial and grunge elements with experimental aesthetics. The result is a mind-blowing piece that pushes musical envelopes and distorts the norm with its raw, live and unorthodox arrangement. We then get “Training Day,” which is inspired by the classic crime thriller of the same name. The production is cinematic and features a vivid conversation between two characters who play a serial killer and a negotiator, and the tense atmosphere surrounding their stalemate. Here, listeners are thrown into the mix with a lot of tension and a change of narrative as the track goes along.
“III Chunks Of Your Own Soul” is an unravelling and riveting track that explores psychological breakdown and how it leads to violence. The production is edgy, dynamic and rousing, and its punctated by electric guitars, rumbustious drum fills, dark textures and energetic vocal performances with vivid songwriting. The track brings together a host of genres, but the icing on the cake is how it fuses it all to create a spine-chilling piece that highlights a human mind going out of control. The closer, “Serious Fun,” is a collaboration with UK metal outfit Kryophere. The result is an explosive guitar-laden collaboration ripe with gripping vocal performances, punchy drums laced with gripping sound design and boundary-pushing arrangement. The track is definitely a stand-out for us as it shows how far Bleed Electric are willing to go beyond their comfort zone to create music that resonates with fans of different genres.

In summary, So Sick is another notch on Bleed Electric’s deep catalogue and a testament to their nonconformist musical style.
