Emerging musician/songwriter Beyond the Midwest makes his debut on our site with his new project The Comeback. The aptly titled project is a testament to the artist’s resilience and life-changing experiences over time. From the dark moments when they were riddled with bouts of depression, and self-doubts to the bright patches when they found the inner strength to face their demons and gave the ultimate sacrifice to find inner peace. The project is threaded by time-stamped tracks that follow Beyond The West as they go on this life-changing journey through an unpredictable terrain.

The project begins with “Sleepless Nights,” a heartfelt love song about yearning for that special someone whose absence creates turmoil and the ever-raging battle within himself. The track has a rich solemn guitar arrangement with hushed trap drums underpinned by soothing melodic flows and heartfelt lines like “I don’t really need the sun as I write my letter/I am dreaming hard that I ever forget her.” “Outside” starts with an electric guitar arrangement and slowly rises to a plateau when the beat drops. The resulting beat is bouncy and has a dark vibe underpinned by Beyond The West’s unique laidback drawl and heartfelt songwriting. This is followed by “Tamagotchi Friends,” a mid-tempo punchy beat with punk and emo-trap elements ripe with introspective songwriting. Lines like  “Let this be a lesson to yourself/The only thing you need is your true self/I know its not me and it feels like you but slowly you gonna say boldly” underscore the friendship theme. “Maybe Someday” has a moody cinematic vibe that blends dark pop and trap aesthetics. He extensively uses several vocal effects as he pours his true feelings on wax.  Listeners can feel his anger and fiery emotions as he unloads his frustration through the music. In “Rage of War,” he depicts the mental battle he faces on wax with a brooding and cinematic backdrop. Over the backdrop, he takes listeners through the ups and downs of his life and ultimately how he traverses the voices in his head with an indomitable spirit.

The final track “See Me” has a soft rock vibe and it is anchored on a solemn guitar arrangement and showcases Beyond the Midwest’s expressive melodic style. Here, he dwells on his troubles and how battling inner demons has bogged him down. He cries for the world to feel his pain and hopes for a better tomorrow. Other notable tracks include the introspective “Letter To Myself” where Beyond The West explores some healing and therapies but nothing works till he has to look within and “Dust 2 Trust,” a bouncy pop guitar-driven track underpinned by rich emotion-driven melodies and solemn songwriting that explore trepidation and the difficulty of trusting in himself.

Overall, The Comeback is a profound discourse on the delicate issues of mental health from a man’s perspective. The loneliness that comes with the healing process and the life-changing effects of breaking free and finding one’s strength to overcome it all.
