Soulful SoCal singer-songwriter/ saxophonist Austin Gatus delivers this powerful breakup anthem titled “Love Can Only Take You So Far” with an accompanying visual. The ballad highlights Gatus’ genre-bending approach, which finds him taking elements from Jazz, R&B/soul with contemporary pop elements. As the title suggests, it explores the core elements that make love thrive, and without these elements, it will wither away. Gatus delivers a soul-stirring performance ripe with engaging and insightful songwriting that talks about mutual loss, youthful exuberance and the aftermath of chasing dreams. The overall bittersweet feeling finds Gatus being separated from his partner as both walk their destined paths to find their true purpose. Lines like “Every day, every night Till the day that I die/You’ll always have, that space in my life /No one to blame, lord knows we tried/Till we both realized Love’s not the same, if not side by side” underpin the core message in the song.

The accompanying music video sees Gatus portraying two sides of the same emotional coin. One character is in the dark, and the other wallows in the light, and both perspectives try to find their way through their respective voids. However, they’re both drawn to a common light that leads them back to each other, ultimately coming to terms with their situation.

“Love Can Only Take You So Far” is the second single and title track of the EP.

He got his early music introductions while growing up with a singing father in a San Diego household, where he heard him play jazz standards and Broadway tunes on the family piano. His father carefully guided him towards the saxophone at a young age, and Gatus got proficient at it, but later he also picked up the guitar and added that to his repertoire. In 2016, he released his debut EP This Night, during his freshman year at UCLA and later released the Motions EP. Both projects highlighted his multi-genre style, ranging from Jazz, R&B/Soul, synthpop and powerful ballads. He also has a string of songwriting and film score credits to his name.
