As critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Na prepares for her new album, she delivers a double single “Eugene / Save The World .” The tracks serve as musical precurors that not only showcases Nao’s dynamic vocal range but overlal musical style and versatility. Teaming with record producer Dave Okumu, who helps bring her ideas to life, the duo craft a smooth blend of modern jazz, alternative soul with R&B elements that pushes the envelope.
“Eugene” is a celebratory track that pays homage to Michael Eugene Archer p/k/a D’Angelo and highlights his musical influence on Nao. Over a plucky guitar-driven backdrop with warm pads and solid drums, Nao delivers a heartfelt tribute with warm melodic runs that closes with rich melodic flourishes that evoke the spirit of the late D’Angelo.
On the Marvin Gaye-inspired “Save The World”, she explores the concept of locating one’s responsibility in an unforgiving world where nothing is given or certain.
