London-based, genre-blending artist mase J‘s latest release, “2am freestyle” is a laidback lofi track that explores personal thoughts intersected with pure lyricism. Against a mellow piano-laden backdorp with soft drum grooves, mase J takes listeners on a journey filled with events and reflections. Armed with his laidback and commanding flow, and lines like “she put a lotta money on red/doesn’t matter if it’s well spent/the ball drops, curving round the bends/now she wonders how she’s gonna make rent,” which underscore the connected thought patterns in his head.
