Leamington Spa-born rapper Beant‘s newest release “Widows’ Song” is a reflective and profound tune that explores themes of spirituality, social-political upheaval and his Punjabi-Sikh roots. The production has a laidback drum groove underpinned by a sublime melodic vocal sample with a cinematic string. Here, Beant gives audiences a glimpse into his lie with unfiltered bars like
“Politicians on a killing spree
I will fight tooth and nail you won’t take my tongue from me
Bring your iron rods watch the fiver rivers flow from me
Take it to the top, you will never kill my ma boli
I ain’t given up you can take my fuckin life from me
I speak with the bravery of all my brothers behind me”
Beant doesn’t mince his words and proceeds with much gusto as he pours his heart on wax.
After moving to London at 18 he released his debut EP, ‘The Rules of Engagement’ in June 2023. The project explores themes of race and spirituality – drawing heavily on his Punjabi-Sikh background. Having been made BBC’s Introducing Artist of the Week and covered by Wordplay Magazine and Eastern Eye; he released his second single ‘Gallows’ in September. The song now has over 13,000 streams.
