Emerging songwriter/rapper/music producer Zehbrah‘s latest project Green Version Demo, is a 6 track body-of-work that chronicles his transformation through experiential means. From self-assessments, awareness and reflection on how societal elements affect his thought process, Zebrah gives audiences his undiluted perspective on life and the continuous search for purpose.

The first track “ The Nirv (Do You Know Me?)” is playful and bravado-driven exploring themes of soul searching, growth and inner peace through turbulent times. The beat has a weird offbeat vibe but lyrics like Hurt and pain are just the seeds/ Fear is more than all that breathes/ Don’t let waves disturb your seas/Rain so long, deserve the breeze” help underscore his thoughts. This is followed by the insightful “Want Nothing,”  where he shares his thoughts on materialism vs simplicity and gives a nuanced perspective on the matter with lines like “Don’t get me wrong, I know we really need that/I’m just saying, I ain’t trying to feed that.” With two songs in, Zehbrah has already established his stance on topical real-time issues that everyone can equally relate to.

“Chess” is the quintessential tale of the never-ending struggles of life and how hurdles and stumps can try to derail one from doing the right things. Over the cinematic and scenic soundscape, he incorporates Chess references into his lyricism and thrills audiences with his expressive flow and storytelling skills. The following track, “ Is It His Fault?” is a profound look at the effects of being disenfranchised by a system that continues to exploit and discard its citizens. Backed by a moody and dark backdrop, Zebrah poses the questions that many are afraid to ask.  Next is the uplifting and reflective tune “Life Right,” a heartfelt track comprising atmospheric textures underpinned by thoughtful bars on the concept of living to one’s full potential. The final track, “Make Me Proud,” is an aspirational and somewhat celebratory tune that aims to motivate listeners to go forth and chase their dreams with every ounce of their being. This is the much-needed push everyone needs, and the chorus “Bring that thump, bring that loud, talk your shit, make me proud” really punctuates the emotions and energy.

Overall Green Version Demo, feels concise and captures a snapshot of Zebrah’s life on wax. The topics are highly relatable and the manner of approach is authentic and insightful.
