Hard-working producer WodieBeats delivers two solid beats on this week’s playlist. The first being “Quik ’94,” a smooth guitar-driven funk beat that pays homage to the legendary DJ Quik. The track has smooth West Coast synths, lush guitar licks and groovy percussion-driven drums. The second track, “21 & Lewis,” has a sublime summertime feel with 90s West Coast style R&B/funk elements.
Julián Aponte connects with Pukem and Lost Files for “Sleet,” a reflective lofi/soul infused piece that evokes reflection and nostalgia. Using sparse drum arrangements and trippy chord riffs with soulful keys, the trio deliver this relaxing and blissful cut to our eardrums. CaliCronk enters this week’s playlist with “Honeyed Shade,” a mellow R&B/soul track with jazz aesthetics, while GorillaSoundz flips the energy with “ACID TOKYO,” a vibrant retro jazz piece that comprises rich guitar licks, sublime horns and a solid drum groove. Kitsuji takes us deep into “Distant Memories” in their newest release, and it’s worth every listen. From the moody guitar licks, soft ethereal tones and slow build-up, listeners are carried along with palpable emotive textures. Next we have Lo-Fi Station who opens up the sunroof to “Violet Skies,” a laid-back, chilled track with soft drums, prominent guitar licks and soothing sound design that evokes clarity and comfort.
Stræpa soothes our souls with the future jazz-infused textures on “Soft Whisper”, while Milocero leads us into the complex “Metropolis” where dreams can come true. Jonny Alias makes us take the much-needed downtime on “Wait Till Tomorrow,” followed by Saul Wasabi‘s groovy exploration in “Four Seasons In One Day.”
“while we’re both here” is a heartfelt and reflective guitar-laden piece from quiet june and sereleaf, and it’s followed by Gerold Kukulenz Chillin’ Beats‘ “No Sleep Tonight,” a mellow piece with sparse guitar licks, synths and soft tones.
Lewis Daniel‘s”Gaslight” gets a brilliant remix courtesy of ROMderful. The result is a dynamic, medley-like production ripe with layered chords, anthemic horn riffs, soulful textures with punchy drum grooves that extend into a breathtaking crescendo. This is the first single from his forthcoming remix project, Defective Radio.
