Chicagoland Area-based rapper/businessman TBA makes his entry on our site with his new project WHO AM I? The 16-track project is a mix of relatable topics and showcases musical versatility.
The project opens up with “SIGNING DAY” which is a short skit involving the signing of a fictional athlete to a football team and his eventual story. This is followed by the title track which is a cinematic and upbeat track that fully details TBA’s persona and gives listeners a glimpse into his life. “CHANCE” is a sombre and contemplative track made up of mellow and atmospheric synths and smooth grooves underpinned by TBA’s melodic flow and reflective songwriting. The song explores the risks taken by the character and his regret after the fact. The record is far from being a sob story but more of a display of accountability by someone who overlooked the potential damages and now has to face the consequences. On “ROCK BOTTOM”, we see TBA digging deep into his emotions to try to find his true North. His lyrics are rueful, heartfelt and give listeners something to ponder on. “NO CAP” sees TBA collaborating with King P and it’s a mid-tempo track that exudes the luxurious life he gained after all the ups and downs while “UNDEFEATED” talks about the unprecedented comeuppance of a rising artist. He makes use of a smooth melodic style in the chorus and in the verses he reminds us that he pushed it to the limit to live the life he deserves.
“VICTORY LAP” closes out the track nicely with a semi-anthemic and reflective soundscape. The track sees him detailing his journey thus far and how these events shaped him into what he is. He doesn’t hold back and revels in his success as much as he can.
Overall, the project is cohesive and filled with relatable elements that we all can aspire to emulate.
