As the year 2024 comes to a close, we still must contend with the last crop of music being churned out and even if it’s at a moment’s notice help bring it to the larger populace. With that being said, we got hold of emerging artist SLOWPIPE’s new project Cadence. The project is a 5 track EP is a blend of upbeat and vibrant sounds, uplifting melodic runs with a versatile production approach.
The project starts with “0903,” a blissful and upbeat track that exudes summery and playful vibes. Over the rich piano chords, punchy Jersey Club drum groove and dremay textures, SLOWPIPE delivers with his distinct melodic style and catchy chorus where he blends the Korean and English languages. Next is the future R&B hip-hop-infused “Broke Bit” where he employs an autotune vocal texture over a plucky soundscape. Over the synth-driven and bouncy backdrop, he swoons with reckless abandon and a playful demeanor as he flexes over the broke bits that orbit around him. On the following track “No Tutor,” SLOWPIPE takes a cue from the modern pop tropes with a groovy tune comprising bright plucky synth leads, rich lead chords and bass-heavy grooves. Once again, he uses his playful and nonchalant melodic flow to good effect and caps it with a sublime melodic performance ripe with boastful lines. The EP closes out with “nomore-.-“ and “Right now,” two tracks that showcase SLOWPIPE’s knack for musical versatility and ear worm melodies. The former is a playful future pop tune with a beat that evokes 8-bit video game sounds with a K-pop aesthetic while the latter is a R&B/Jersey Club-infused jam with bright and uplifting vibes.
Overall, Cadence is as playful as they come and a testament to SLOWPIPE’s seamless fusion of his South Korean roots and English influences. Throughout the project he sounds like he is having fun and that I must add is the true essence of being creative.
