Emerging hip-hop artist Odder Colors shares a 4 track EP titled ‘It’s Weird Down Here which showcases his off-kilter and experimental musical style. The project starts off with the title track which dives into the concept of being human and the mastery of language to traverse the craziness surrounding us. Over punchy drums, Gamelan bells, and thick 808 kick drums, Odder Colors shows us a whole different side to how life is. This is followed by the gloomy Crash and Repeat” made up of moody sound design and thick drums all underpinned by the rapper’s no holds barred lyrical display. On “Wu Wei”, listeners can be introduced to another barrage of sounds that stray from the usual as the synths are pulsating and eerie while the punchy drums get bolstered by Odder Colors stream of consciousness raps. The final cut “Handmade Projections” is somber and dreamy and it’s quite different from the previous songs with its bright and happy feel but the lyrics are still off-kilter.
Overall, the EP lives up to its name and delivers something refreshing and different.
