After stunning the hip-hop world with the release of their highly anticipated collaborative LP, Light-Years, the legendary duo Nas and DJ Premier are back in the forefront with the visuals for “GiT Ready.” The anthemic track is a staple from the aforementioned album and is a masterclass in lyrical genius and production wizardry. At the helm of the mic, Nas highlights his successes in the rap game and beyond while flexing his lyrical muscles over Preem’s famed punchy boombap drums, sparse sample chops and cinematic sound design that helped reshape the East Coast sound.
The accompanying visual is shot in New York, the birthplace of hip-hop, by director Jean-Charles “JC” Charavin, who uses a mix of fast-cut scenes and performance shots of both the rapper and the DJ in their respective environments. The clip also uses several motifs alluding to the duo’s trajectory as elder statesmen in the game, even beyond the music. From the street corner cyphers to executive board rooms, the duo played chess while others played checkers.
Last week, Nas released the Legend Has It.. Nas Feature Presentation – a curated digital and physical release highlighting all of Nas’ featured guest appearances across the Legend Has It… album series. Listen HERE. Inspired by the classic, raw Smack DVD culture of the early 2000s, each track comes with exclusive commentary from Nas offering deeper insight into his collaborations on each album and also includes Nas’ original verse on “Omerta” from Raekwon’s The Emperor’s New Clothes.
