Emerging South African rapper MIRE breaks his musical hiatus with three new singles. The tracks are a blend of lofi/hiphop with retro aesthetics, underpinned by off-kilter writing and storytelling that give listeners a glimpse into his life.

The first track, “my pain!?,”  is a reflective piece about emotional pain and the hurt that comes with life in general. Here, MIRE talks about a few life incidents, his experiences and decisions made that impacted him.

The second track “p17” has a bouncy soul trap feel with an urgent tone and is underpinned by MIRE’s melodic flow and somewhat nonchalant cadence. Here, he talks about the detractors and fair-weather friends who try to sneak behind his back. The track has a more serious tone than the previous cut, but MIRE’s distinctive personality still shines through.

The final track “reality of a kind homie” has a smooth piano-riff-driven vibe with a cloud-rap aesthetic. Once again, MIRE employs his off-beat rap flow with a touch of bravado. He flexes on the opposition with vivid imagery, non sequiturs and unorthodox references that maybe only South Africans can fully grasp.

All in all, MIRE shines through on these tracks, and with a bit more effort, we think he will always get better with each release.
