Uprising rapper/songwriter Lemarze Smith makes his appearance on our site with his newest project entitled Celebration. The 17-track body of work is an exploration of emotions, his journey through the ups and downs of this thing called life.

“Tonight Intro” is an upbeat electronic dance piece that is underpinned by crowd noise and drops listers deep into a festival filled with joy and anticipation. “Wait of the World” is an anthemic track with rich textures, cinematic brass stabs and choral vocals with lush keys. Here, Lemarze embodies the spirit of the go-getter who never stops for nothing and his engine is always running. “Whipping in the Kitchen” has a sombre and somewhat moody piano-laden backdrop and showcases Lemarze’s carefree demeanour and stylish flow. The rapper once again reminds us that he is on a mission with the affirmative lines “Let me tell you about the plot/constant work, no regrets/Take the mill and cut the check”.  “Down this ROAD” is a soulful and reflective tune that sees Lemarze digging deep into his heart and sharing his thoughts on the lady who caught his eye and how he feels about that. It’s quite a change of pace for the rapper and gives listeners a vulnerable side to the rapper.

“One Last Time” is made up of a sizzling electronic synth-lead and punchy drums. It’s quite rousing and bouncy and the vocals here have excessive reverb which makes the vocals a bit off-centre but the chorus is memorable. “Tired (Interlude)” lives up to its title with its laidback and sorrowful production made up of lush guitar plucks and moody pads. This is followed by the introspective “Prison” and melancholic “Poison”. The former takes listeners deep into Lemarze’s mind and his demons which he has to overcome while the latter dives into the rapper’s mental health and self-growth. “Social Media Slave” is an insightful and thought-provoking look into the pros and cons of social media and how it affects our psyche. Over a pounding drum groove and solemn pads, Lemarze paints a gloomy picture of an individual trapped in the labyrinth of social media and the trends of today can lead to destruction. “Don’t Cage Me” is the next track and explores the concept of straying and going against the grain. He shares his message with such a refreshing candid while appealing to the powers that be not to cage him.“Take Flight (Interlude)” is another instrumental interlude that draws emotions from listeners with its rich violin arrangement and soft piano riffs.

“Bigger Than My City” is a playful 808-driven tune that captures Lemarze’s bravado and aspirational dreams as he aims to be greater than what he is. He is quite hopeful and gives us a glimpse into his goals and dreams. Next up is the pop-infused “Erase You” which is a lovelorn tune about a flame who left an indelible mark on his mind and he is longing for her to return. The project closes out with “No Ls”, an anthemic track made up of dark scenic synths and a throbbing bass synth underpinned by thick drums and Lemarze’s commanding flow. He sure holds nothing back and embodies the spirit of a man who is not taking any shorts or losses. Other notable tracks include the emotional “Love for You” and the soulful “Good Feeling”

Overall, the production of Celebration is varied, cinematic and unpredictable. The hard-hitting cuts are well-crafted but the pop-infused ones might need a second or third listen to convince listeners. On the other hand, Lemarze’s off-center flow is unique but at times, the use of vocal doubles can be distracting.
