Canadian-American musician Kojo Kay is on a different musical path than his peers. With West and East African roots (Ghana and Uganda to be precise), the singer/songwriter/producer steps into uncharted territory with his experimental take on contemporary R&B/soul with futuristic musical elements. His latest release, “UNDERWATER FIRE,” is a self-produced piece that highlights his production and songwriting skills and captures the power of layered thematic music that explores the core being of humanity and complex emotions. The production is cinematic, layered and progressive, which lends its strengths to the singer’s commanding and expressive vocalizations. Joining him on the track is fellow Canadian alternative artist MAZELFYRE, who adds a siren-like vocal run to the track, and the result is an ethereal piece that grips the soul.
“UNDERWATER FIRE” is taken from Kojo Kay’s upcoming debut independent mixtape TONEBOW.
